So I have been hanging out in Las Vegas for the past 3 days at the National Association of Broadcasters Show. It’s been crazily busy, there are probably 125,000 people attending the convention, so much to see, so much to learn, and I have never been so overwhelmed with technology in my life, and I have been a geek for a while now.
Anyway, on Monday evening we (Flamingo Road Church sent a crew of 10 to attend the show) went to have dinner at our hotel’s buffet. I’m getting something to eat and then I see this man that looks like Les Stroud, the Survivorman. What is the next thought that comes to my mind? “I can’t be him”. So I moved on to continue having a great meal. The next morning, as I am walking the convention floor, I saw the Sony Vegas booth and… what do you know! Survivorman himself is talking about the technology he uses to shoot his show. So it was him back in the buffet. I would have loved to talk to him at that moment and make some funny remark like “Is this how you get ready for the show?” or something.
Great guy, very genuine. Here are some facts he mentioned about doing the Survivorman TV show:
-Hates reality TV
-Comes from a documentary background, so he sees himself as documenting his survival adventure, not doing reality Tv
-Takes 5 or 6 cameras during his 7 day adventure, but comes back home with just 2
-Packs 9 batteries
-Spends 60% of his time filming and 40% surviving
-Doesn’t think about eating more or less in preparation for his adventure.
-Is Canadian
Very cool and authentic guy. I love his show, and will have another excuse to continue to watch.
MeeGee, I’m so happy for you! That’s great that you got to meet him.
