Flamingo Film Festival was a total success this past weekend. The gala event on Friday night helped to thank our great team of volunteers for their amazing job during this year, but it was also an amazing opportunity to thank the Godfather of the video team, our very own Brian Vasil. He single handedly started the video team at Flamingo back in 1,999 so he was the keynote speaker for the event and we were so glad to thank him for doing an amazing job during these years and the fact that we have a very productive team in place right now is a reflection of his awesome work. There was also great food, lots of prizes, games and we awarded 3 MVP (Most Valuable Producers) awards. The winners were Evan Garcia, Maria Ramirez and Luis Cardona. These guys, along with all our team of volunteers are off the hook!

Then we had the teams distribution. 4 different teams had to come up with a 3 to 5 minute movie that would represent one of the values that we believe in at Flamingo Road Church, a genre, an actor and a prop. The competition would start Saturday morning at 6 AM and the film was due at noon. Let me tell you, it was a lot of fun. Today I’m posting a slideshow recap video. Starting tomorrow, I will post the films soon. For now, enjoy this recap video.

Today we had an amazing day celebrating our volunteers in the Media Team at Flamingo. Very little sleep, a lot of work, tons of laughter, tons of stress but in the end it was all worth it. For now, I want to show you one of the videos shown at the festival. It contains some highlights of a year’s worth of work. I will post more about what happened at F3 later. Enjoy.

We spent the day getting ready for our first annual Flamingo Film Festival & Awards, an event prepared for our Media volunteers who have worked hard this past year to produce some of the sickest videos I’ve seen (I will be posting a very cool video reel later). We, the Media Staff Team have been working hard planning, buying cool stuff, organizing, decorating, preparing videos and equipment for an amazing video scavenger hunt. It all starts Friday night and goes on Saturday all day. It is going to be fun. Here’s a sneak peek.

This past Sunday Pr. Hal Mayer from Church at The Bay paid us a visit here at Flamingo. He used to be executive pastor here and tons of people currently on staff speak great things about him. In Potential Podcast Pr. Troy said that nobody has influenced his ministry as much as Pr. Hal has. So, he came, talked about romance, did an amazing job…oh, and he danced. Check it out.

I was hanging out in the Cooper City green room this weekend when I noticed that, as usual, there was somebody at the door trying to sneak in. Apparently he didn’t read the “Staff Only” sign and he had just been to one of our services and wanted to congratulate Pastor Troy. He is Rocky Raccoon, age 2 1/2 (29 in raccoon years), single father of 2, came to Flamingo for the second time. “I love the experience, I’ve been to other churches and Flamingo is a lot different from any other church. There is something about it that connected with me”. I explained to him that Pastor Troy was not available at the moment and that that particular teaching had been on video to which he replied he didn’t know the difference, the video quality was so good, he thought he actually was there. Mr Raccoon, who also attended last week’s service, said he felt great when Pastor Scott Mendenhall made reference to his species from the stage. “You guys take diversity very seriously” he said, and you should have seen the look in his eyes.

He promised to bring his 2 kids next week and would invite some of his friends (Pastor Allen should be proud). My only concern is that he will be greeted by Joe Malivuk and the Maintenance Crew instead of the awesome first impressions team.
