Know Your Church

This is trivia post. Someone tell me where you can find this sign. Winner gets… something.

Trip To Kendall

A friend of Heredes contacted me to play in a band he is putting together to play at a 4th of July event down in Miami. I drove down to Christ Fellowship where we are rehearsing and I learned a couple of things along the way:

  • Traffic is way heavier in Miami-Dade county than it is here in Broward county, way heavier.
  • Carlos introduced Heredes to Coldplay. Wow!
  • Cell coverage is so much better down there. My iPhone didn’t go down from the full 5 bars all the time there. I get homeĀ  and I get a lousy 2 bars if I’m lucky.
  • We are playing Yellow, Lovers in Japan and Violet Hill from Coldplay. Wow, those guys are music geniuses. I have never enjoyed their music this much.
  • U2 rocks! I guess everybody knows that already.
  • John Mayer is sick. My musical skills have been challenged tremendously.
  • Carlos taught Heredes everything he knows about music, leading worship and pop culture. He did a pretty good job.

I’ll post more info about the concert later on.

AT&T posted this video explaining how to hand down your current iPhone if you are upgrading to iPhone 3G.

I was not planning on upgrading soon, not at least for the first couple of weeks. But a friend of mine wants to buy my old one; she even told me if I was gonna get the new one on July 11th, the day it comes out. So, I guess I will be upgrading very soon.

Tip: If you want to make fun of a friend of yours who has the iPhone 1.0, after July 11th, you can tell him/her: “Oh, is that the old iPhone?” LOL

The title says it all. See all the covers here.

Tell The World

This weekend at Flamingo, the worship team performed Tell The World from Hillsong United. The video team came up with this amazing video to go along with the song. Great job guys, Mo, you are awesome.

A Few Pics

I just wanted to share with you a couple of pictures a good friend of mine took this past weekend at our Cooper City campus. See the full gallery here.

I Heart My Job!

One of my responsibilites here at Flamingo is to capture the services on video and send it to our campuses. When I started, I have to say it was a little bit too much for me. I only knew the basics about video editing and if you have ever worked with video, you know there’s tons of specifications and little details that you have to get right in order for it to work flawlessly. Sometimes, getting footage from a camera into a computer feels almost impossible. So, in the past 5 months, I’ve learned a lot, we have resolved issues in the process and we are now at a point where our videos are playing the way they are supposed to be playing at our video campuses. Am I happy with where the video capturing team is at this moment? I would think a normal answer would be yes, but I have to say my answer right now is ‘No’. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad that there haven’t been major video issues as of lately, and I was feeling confident but all of a sudden, Pastor Troy challenged me big time.

During the summer, we will be dropping a couple of services at our main campus; but instead of taking this time to relax, our leadership team has challenged us to think ahead and get a big push down the road so that our teams are prepared and ready to execute and lead in a better way. This Monday, Pastor Troy Gramling addressed the staff via video from Tampa FL. He is there because he is having back surgery. He has been struggling lately with continuous pain in his lower back and decided to have laser surgery to correct that problem. He said something that blew my mind:

“One of the reasons I am doing this is to reach my potential because my back pain is stopping me from getting where God wants me to be”

Wow! I never saw it like that. In my mind, I thought Pastor Troy was simply having surgery because he was tired of feeling pain in his back. I felt challenged, big time. Pastor Raul shared in the same meeting about what are the things in our ministry we have to do to be more effective and what are the things we need to stop doing in order to have a better ministry.

So, what am I doing this summer? I want to work at preparing a team of people who will take video capturing into a new level. Easier said than done though, building team is not an easy thing, specially in video editing. It envolves a lot of training and skill development. Will I do it? Yes. I’m sure there is a group of people who’s hearts are being nudged by God into helping in the video team so they can reach their potential.

My prayer is that this ministry will be prepared for our fall season. Come October, I’m sure I will love my job even more.

I got addicted to podcasts about 2 years ago commuting 2 hours to and from work every day (don’t ask!). I don’t commute that much anymore so I don’t spend as much time listening to podcasts as I used to, but I wanted to put together this list of podcasts you will find in my iPod.

What’s in your iPod? What podcasts do you listen to?
